The southern area of the Costa Blanca stretches from Alicante to Pilar de la Horadada and takes in the Blue Flag beaches of Guardamar, La Mata, Torrrevieja, Cabo Roig and Campoamor. It also includes an area known as Vega Bajo which stretches inland to the Sierra Crevillente and Sierra Callosa. The towns of Rojales, Algorfa, Almaradi and Callosa are very close to the beaches (all within a fifteen minute drive) and are generally populated by Europeans and Scandinavians as well as the  local Spanish.

These areas are particularly good for people looking to retire to Spain as they are set within a “micro climate” which is considered the most  healthy place in the world to live. Tourism flourishes here and people visit throughout the year enjoying the 320 days of sunshine and temperatures of up to 44 degrees in mid summer.

firstThe region from Alicante up to Denia on the South East coast of Spain is referred to as Costa Blanca North. The magnificent mountains in this area roll down to the superb coastline which takes in the towns of Denia,  Moreira,  Altea,  Caple through to Benidorm  with their Blue flag beaches and along to Alicante. This is one of the more expensive areas for purchasing property but the views (both mountain and Coast) are just spectacular.

As with most regions in this part of Spain the culture has very much a Moorish influence with fine churches and buildings. However this coastline has changed little over the years with small fishing villages still in existence but the influx of tourism has enabled the area to become a haven for people of all nationalities to establish themselves in Spain.

The Costa Calida area is approximately 35 minutes south of Alicante airport. The climate has an above average temperature and low rainfall giving it its name ‘’warm coast’’

Famous in this area are the huge salt lakes, the area of Lo Pagan is well renown for its healing mud baths.

The Mar Menor (little sea) is 5 degrees warmer than the surrounding Mediterranean waters, and makes swimming accessible for an additional two months of the year.

Also in this region you will find San Javier airport with the new international airport of Covera opening in 2013.

The inland areas of Spain to the south east of the country  are covered by the provinces of Valencia and Murcia and include the cities of Orihuela and Murcia and the prosperous towns of Sax, Pinoso, Fortuna , Albatera and The Hondons.  For someone looking to  live in these areas and experience THE REAL SPAIN there are many bargains to be had and generally you would get more for your money than you would by buying on the coasts of Costa Blanca. This region is mountainous and the landscape is stunning with large areas of fruit and almond trees. The large pockets of land give home to some superb villas dotted around the typically Spanish townships and villages. There are so many activities, rivers and lakes to take in, but you are never that far away from the coast and large shopping  centres.
